AN ARTISTIC DANCE COOPERATION

HABIBI 2196-18

It does not really matter where the prisoner of his own fear is. His cell does not have an exit, nor has his situation a resolution. By fearing our true selves, we constantly carry our cells with us and the only world which remains is the world of our images of what would happen, if…

The arabic word Habibi is a male connotation of darling or my beloved. The dance performance of an Austrian choreographer Helene Weinzierl Habibi Problem was inspired by a true story of two Iranian gay teenagers and their problems caused by the inacceptable otherness of their love. While one of them was killed by the authorities of his own country at the age of 17, the other lived in the UK exile under a constant threat of deportation back to his country.
Ten years later, Slovak choreographer Yuri Korec, who is the co-author and performer of the original version of this work, presents a renewed dance performance called Habibi 2196-18 within the context of the question of otherness in the Eastern European region.

“They got married and lived together till death did them part.”

In their latest project the Czech-Slovak duo of creators have embarked on a journey of discovery of various forms of romantic relationships which know no obstacles of age or gender. Two people, two bodies, two separate identities fighting for love and exploring the boundaries of humility and loss of identity, dependence and sharing, honesty and deceit, love and hate. A confrontation of ideas about the ideal relationship and the reality of what it means to truly build a romantic relationship shaped into an expressive, bodily image.

The movement between Tereza and Peter arises from constant communication between “you and I” in harmony and dissent, both gracefully and awkwardly. With humour and passion, open to one another and for one another, they embark together with the audience on a journey into relationships. Each seemingly hopeless situation is an impetus for returning to the question: Do you still want to hold my hand?

We keep on re-visiting the forms of relationships and their unrestrictedness. In the performance on 5th August and 25th of September a slovak dancer Lukas Zahy appears on Peter Savel's side on the stage and dances the part of the co-creator Tereza Ondrová.

“Človek klame celý dlhý ľudský život, obzvlášť tým, ktorí ho milujú a predovšetkým tomu cudzincovi, ktorého opovrhnutie by nás bolelo najviac – sebe samému.”
Marcel Proust

“Podstatou nafukovacích objektov je vzduch, nie plast.”

Naplniť, zabrať a vymedziť priestor pre ojedinelú udalosť. Stret kolektívu s verejnosťou. Skrz i osobne. Podstatou všetkej akcie je prítomnosť a bytie. Sami sebou s okolím bez okolkov vytvárajúc niečo, čo vyprchá, spľasne, no niekde navždy zostáva. Sebaprezentácia vždy podlieha istej premene v niečo, niekoho. Premena je podstatou bytia.
